Umar Shahbaz Khan has joined Hamdard University as Campus Director, marking a significant new chapter in his distinguished academic and leadership career.
In his new role, Prof. Umar will lead the strategic, academic, and operational development of the Islamabad Campus, driving excellence in higher education, research, innovation, and institutional growth. With decades of experience in engineering education and technology leadership, he is well-positioned to strengthen the university’s vision for academic excellence and industry collaboration.
Prior to this appointment, Prof. Umar served as Professor at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and as Project Director of the National Centre of Robotics & Automation, where he played a pivotal role in advancing Pakistan’s robotics, automation, embedded systems, and artificial intelligence research ecosystem. He also served as Head of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) College of E&ME, mentoring future engineers and leading impactful research initiatives.
A PhD in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from the University of Liverpool, Prof. Umar is widely recognized for his contributions to robotics, automation, embedded systems, image processing, prosthetics, brain-computer interfaces, and intelligent engineering systems. His achievements have earned him the prestigious President’s Pride of Performance, reflecting his lasting impact on engineering education and technological innovation in Pakistan.
